Position Overview

The Cabinet Office is looking to appoint a new Executive Officer to enhance its dynamic program aimed at making UK Government initiatives more grounded in evidence and improving public outcomes.

As part of the Cabinet Office Delivery Group, which encompasses the Mission Delivery Unit and the Government Strategic Management Office, we are located in London and promote hybrid working with an expectation of at least 60% office presence.

Role Responsibilities

This position is within a collaborative Cabinet Office-HM Treasury unit. Our mission is to ensure that the effectiveness of policies and programs is central to governmental decision-making.

We engage with all central government departments, offering specialized guidance and support for their evaluation strategies. Additionally, we assist HM Treasury in scrutinizing evidence and evaluation plans linked to departmental funding proposals.

Our team invests in impactful, innovative research both within and outside the government through various funding opportunities. We collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders and lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the transparency of research outputs and equipping civil servants with evaluation skills.

Key Activities

  • Preparation of briefings and documents - crafting monthly ministerial briefings, addressing FOI requests, preparing meeting materials, and ensuring all documents are suitable for submission to the Deputy Director, while coordinating with the team to manage workload effectively.
  • Team management - collaborating with HR and Finance to address recruitment needs and manage team budgets efficiently.
  • Relationship building - developing and maintaining connections with Ministerial Private Offices within the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury, as well as across the Civil Service.
  • Diary Coordination - organizing and managing the Deputy Director's schedule, resolving conflicts, and prioritizing their commitments.
  • Email Management - overseeing the Deputy Director's inbox, ensuring urgent matters are identified and addressed promptly, while also managing the team's mailbox effectively.
  • Meeting and travel logistics - coordinating travel arrangements, accommodations, and hospitality for official trips, as well as managing meeting logistics, including room bookings and document circulation.
  • Flexible teamwork - leading tasks as necessary to provide additional support and potentially developing your own projects on behalf of the Deputy Director.

Additional Information

At least 60% of your working hours should be spent at your primary workplace, with travel to other locations for official duties also contributing to this requirement.
