London, Greater London, United Kingdom Cabinet Office Full time

Job Overview

The Cabinet Office plays a pivotal role in supporting the Prime Minister to fulfill the Government's overarching objectives and effectively communicate its policies to various audiences, including Parliament and the public. The diverse team at the Cabinet Office, which includes the Digital team, works collaboratively to provide exceptional service while fostering a positive work environment.

Position Summary

This position is ideal for an accomplished photographer seeking a dynamic opportunity to document the daily engagements of the Prime Minister, cabinet members, and significant events at the Cabinet Office.

Your photography will reach a vast audience, influencing public perception and understanding of government initiatives. Through compelling visual narratives, your work will convey critical messages and highlight events that are at the forefront of national discourse.

You will be responsible for creatively illustrating how government actions affect citizens' lives, simplifying intricate policies into engaging visual content that resonates with the public.

Collaboration with various stakeholders, including ministers, press officers, and special advisors, will be essential to your role.

We seek a creative, adaptable self-starter who can work autonomously and proactively meet deadlines.

A solid grasp of how images function across different social media platforms is crucial. While a background in politics is beneficial, the ability to translate complex communications into relatable digital content is paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Digital Communications to effectively capture and showcase the work of the Prime Minister and other ministers through visual media.
  • Lead the photography efforts during both domestic and international engagements, ensuring high-quality imagery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with press officers, special advisors, and event teams to integrate imagery and digital content into media strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of the digital communications community across government, ensuring consistent quality standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Prime Minister's photographic archive.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members in photographic best practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in photojournalism, preferably with a national or regional publication or agency.
  • Proven ability to provide photography for various media platforms, both social and traditional.
  • Proficient in photo editing software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Photo Mechanic.
  • A keen eye for capturing impactful images and the narratives they convey.
  • Expertise in digital content and photography platforms.
  • Prior experience in content management, ideally in a related field.
  • Familiarity with high-end camera equipment and proficiency in its use.
  • Experience in live filing from camera and delivering content under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a quick learning ability.

Additional Information

It is expected that a minimum of 60% of your working hours will be spent at your primary workplace, with attendance at other locations for official duties also contributing to this requirement.

Behaviors

During the selection process, candidates will be assessed against the following behaviors:

  • Adaptability and Improvement
  • Collaboration
  • Timely Delivery

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, the Cabinet Office offers contributions towards a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme, tailored learning and development opportunities, flexible working arrangements, a culture that promotes inclusion and diversity, and a minimum of 25 days of paid annual leave, increasing with tenure.
