The Digital Communications team at the Cabinet Office is essential in illustrating the impact of government policies on the lives of citizens across the United Kingdom.

This position is ideal for a seasoned photographer seeking a rewarding challenge, with responsibilities that include capturing the daily engagements of the Prime Minister, cabinet members, and significant events at 10 Downing Street.

Your visual contributions will reach millions, significantly influencing public perception. Through compelling imagery, you will convey key governmental messages and document events that are central to the news cycle.

In this role, you will creatively narrate how government initiatives affect everyday lives, simplifying complex policies to resonate with the general populace.

You will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, including ministers, press officers, and special advisors.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a skilled Photographer with a robust portfolio and experience in media sectors such as news, television, sports, or public relations.

You should be innovative, adaptable, and proactive, capable of working autonomously while meeting tight deadlines.

A solid grasp of how images function across diverse social media platforms is essential. While familiarity with political contexts is beneficial, the primary focus should be on translating intricate communications into engaging digital content that captivates audiences quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Digital Communications to effectively capture and showcase the work of the Prime Minister and Ministers through visual mediums.
  • Lead the photography efforts during both domestic and international engagements, ensuring high-quality imagery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with press officers, special advisors, and event teams to integrate imagery and digital content into media strategies.
  • Contribute to the professional development of the digital communications community across government, working with peers to uphold high standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Prime Minister's photographic archive.
  • Guide junior team members in photographic best practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in photojournalism, preferably with a national or regional publication or agency.
  • Proven ability to provide photography for various social media and traditional media platforms.
  • Proficient in photo editing software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Photo Mechanic.
  • A keen eye for capturing impactful images and narratives.
  • Expertise in digital content and photography platforms.
  • Prior experience in content management, ideally in a related field.
  • Knowledge of high-end camera equipment and proficiency in its use.
  • Experience in live reporting from camera and delivering content swiftly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a quick learning ability.

Additional Information

It is expected that a minimum of 60% of your working hours will be spent at your primary workplace, with occasional requirements to attend other locations for official duties.
