London, Greater London, United Kingdom Cabinet Office Full time

Job Overview

This position presents a remarkable opportunity within the newly formed CO Appointments Team, which operates under the Civil Service and Cabinet Office Governance Team. This role provides a unique perspective and a comprehensive understanding of departmental operations and associated organizations.

The CO Appointments Team plays a vital role in assisting Ministers and the broader department with appointments to the Cabinet Office's Arm's Length Bodies. Securing high-quality appointments is essential for achieving the department's goals. The successful applicant will contribute to a centralized center of excellence across all policy areas within the Cabinet Office. This role is often dynamic and high-profile, involving a diverse range of stakeholders, including collaboration with Ministers' Private Offices and senior officials. It encompasses both policy formulation and operational execution, ensuring a premium service for Ministers, policy teams, and candidates, all regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Additionally, the role offers opportunities for change management and service enhancement, leading initiatives such as social media strategies, events, data management, and the cultivation of a diverse talent pipeline.

Our Arm's Length Bodies require robust and diverse Boards to effectively guide their organizational vision and assist Executive Teams in fulfilling statutory responsibilities and achieving strategic objectives. Ministerial appointments to these Boards are based on recommendations from the CO Appointments Team, which also plays a significant role in Honours Committee appointments. This position provides a comprehensive service for Ministers, presenting them with a selection of outstanding candidates from a wide-ranging and diverse talent pool that reflects the communities they serve.

The role necessitates a flexible approach to undertake additional responsibilities that support broader central commissions, aligned with the grade and level of responsibility. You will operate with considerable autonomy in your daily tasks.

  • Leading a team to achieve exceptional performance efficiently while prioritizing their well-being.
  • Overseeing a portfolio of cross-functional strategic projects, utilizing project management tools to establish priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Identifying and developing opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, increase diversity in board appointments, and elevate the visibility of Cabinet Office public appointments.
  • Proactively identifying risks and proposing solutions to team leaders.
  • Collaborating with other team leaders to ensure effective engagement of senior officials in supporting the department's appointment initiatives.
  • Providing expert guidance on all aspects of public appointments to a diverse array of stakeholders, including Ministers, senior officials, policy teams, Chairs of public bodies, and panel members.
  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including those within the Cabinet Office, appointment teams in other Government Departments, and the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
  • Supervising a Higher Executive Officer (HEO), which includes setting clear priorities, ensuring deadlines are met, and providing necessary support for their professional development.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
