The Business Development Director ("BDD") is positioned within the commercial department of ABN AMRO Lease UK ("Lease") and reports to the Head of Sales Lease.

The commercial department for Lease currently consists of Relationship Directors ("RD"), Portfolio Managers and Commercial Support. RD's are responsible for day to day management of existing client relationships and developing new business/lending opportunities from within their client portfolios. Portfolio Managers are responsible for in-life management of the credit review process, client and covenant monitoring. The Commercial Support team supports the RD's with documentation production and deal execution.

The BDD role has been created to provide additional sales focus and increase new client acquisition. The BDD will be responsible for all aspects of new client onboarding through specific sales channels - ABN AMRO Bank, Direct and via Key Business Introducers ("KBI"). They will work very closely with a Deal Structurer, who will support the BDD by providing risk expertise with regards to business, financial, structural and asset risk.

Through their new business development activities, in line with our strategic goals, the BDD contributes to the expansion of the portfolio in the UK. The job holder is an expert in equipment leasing and experienced in developing new client relationships, deal structuring, financial assessment and risk analysis. They manage priorities, communicate effectively and respond to the different interests of internal and external stakeholders. Gains are achieved through effective collaboration with 2nd Line enabling functions (e.g. Risk Management, Asset Valuation, Legal) and the local ABN AMRO Bank.

Your job

The BDD has the following responsibilities:

  • New client acquisition via cross-collaboration with ABN AMRO Bank (two-way), direct prospecting and KBIs, whilst adhering to the moderate risk profile of Lease.
  • Management of the end-to-end new client onboarding process, including pricing, deal structuring, the credit application process, completion of KYC requirements and documentation execution.
  • Maintaining relationships with 1st and 2nd Line stakeholders within Lease and ABN AMRO Bank.
  • Working independently, as well as part of a deal team.
  • Developing and maintaining a contact plan with all potential clients, ABN AMRO Bank colleagues and KBIs.
  • Working closely with the Deal Structurer.

Targets & Results

  • Targets will be aligned with group targets on revenue, profit, balance sheet growth, portfolio mix, risk and costs.
  • Performance Management & Measurement are conducted in respect of output and behaviour.

Advisory and Sales

  • Achieving the new business goals and contributing to the overall performance of Lease, ABF and ABN AMRO Bank.
  • Increasing new client acquisition whilst adhering to the moderate risk profile.
  • Assessing potential customers and transactions for their fit within strategic goals and Risk Appetite Statement.
  • Writing detailed credit proposals, analysing and presenting financial and non-financial risks.
  • Presenting proposals to the Credit Committees of ABF and ABN AMRO Bank.
  • Data quality and data integrity in respect of new prospects/clients.

Network

  • Builds and develops relationships with ABN AMRO Bank, a network of prospects and KBIs, in line with the Lease plan, to optimise and grow the client base.
  • Takes the lead in establishing and managing relationships.
  • Creates opportunities for the origination of (profitable) new deals and structures.

Expertise

  • Provides expertise, in line with commercial plans, to optimise income/return from financing structures with new clients.
  • Coordinates and executes new client onboarding and draws up recommendations for 2nd Line functions.
  • Coordinates and enhances the internal and external network of stakeholders.

Risk

  • Assesses thoroughly if risks, including, but not limited to, reputational, credit, asset, market, operational and money laundering related risks are in line with the moderate risk profile of Lease.
  • Looks for opportunities within the moderate risk profile by using a targeted approach to prospects and KBIs.

Processes and Procedures

  • Follows agreed policies and protocols, whilst continually looking to improve existing business processes within Lease.

  • Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions
  • Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services
