Job summary

14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.

Working as part of the Emergency Surgical Assessment team you would be integral to the care the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides to its patients. EAUS is a complex environment, treating patients with a wide range of conditions. You would be working as part of the front of house team, taking calls, directing patients, using your IT knowledge and excellent decision making skills to help the clinical team deliver our hospital's PRIDE values. EAUS is an exceptionally busy and fast paced environment at all times.

Main duties of the job

To work with all members of the clinical team within the multidisciplinary framework . The Ward Clerical Officer is an essential part of the team, helping to streamline the work of the unit, support and help all members of the team to provide a quality service.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must be:

Aged 16+ Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:

Good general standard of education 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) Good standard of literacy and numeracy Good communication and interpersonal skills Good IT skills

Job responsibilities

Liaise with all Wards/Departments/Staff as and when required, arranging tests and transfers as required. Greet and direct all visitors, patients, patients relatives, GPs, chaplains and representatives to the appropriate member of staff/patient. Answer the telephone and deal with or refer on all incoming calls to the ward staff as appropriate. Maintain admission and discharge records accurately so that they are up to date and correspond with PAS. Keep the Bed State up to date (real time) on an agreed and timely basis. Input accurate and timely data onto the PAS system, ie patients admitted, transferred, discharged from the ward. Assist in the recording of patients property and valuables whilst they are inpatients on the ward. To take valuables, death certificates, validations to the Pay Office for safe keeping. Liaise with nursing teams to book appropriate transport for discharge
