This is an exciting opportunity, for a highly motivated individual seeking a pathway to a professional registration whilst earning a salary.

The physiotherapy apprenticeship combines workplace learning with University degree level academic study. Apprentices will attend the University of East London one day per week for 4 years and fulfil a specified number of clinical placement hours over the duration of the programme. They will have specified protected learning hours each week and will be expected to complete self-directed learning in their own time.

You will be based at the Willow Unit, Norwich Community Hospital, where you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, delivering excellent patient care and developing the skills you are taught through your studies.

Work as part of the team to deliver care in a reablement setting.

To acquire learning as part of an apprenticeship framework, working towards registration as a Physiotherapist.

To support an environment where all team members are responsible for a reablement ethos using a positive risk-taking approach for patients, their carers and families. Working as one team with a person-centered approach.

To support patients being as independent as possible within their functional limits.

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a quality framework to ensure that the highest standards of care are met.

To support and deliver innovation within discharge practice and pathways.

To work with system partners including the voluntary sector to ensure that patients experience a seamless transfer of care both into and onward from the unit

Support the delivery and co-ordination of care to a named group of patients.

Work proactively within the team to achieve unit and trust goals and objectives.

Work with and promote recognised policies, protocols, and guidelines.

If successful at the NCH&C interview you will be asked to attend a second interview, this will be conducted by University of East London (online) to determine if you are suitable for the apprenticeship from an academic perspective.

To ensure you start on time for academic enrolment and orientation to your new role, we expect all checks to be actioned and completed in a timely manner. If these are not completed in time for your start date, your offer will be withdrawn.
- To provide high quality, timely interventions, assisting with timely discharge response, prevention of readmission and rehabilitation. Supporting the ward team who are professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
- To work within an agreed reablement competency framework to support patients with their stated goals and within their functional capabilities.
- To assist the registered therapists with assessment, treatment and management of patients, including stair assessments, and working with patients that require more than one person to treat or mobilise.
- To supervise and monitor patient exercise regimes and treatment programmes, which have been devised by registered clinicians including passive mobilisation techniques and stretches. To liaise with the registered clinician if it is noted that changes to the intervention are required. Such interventions will include the need to overcome barriers to communication, you will be required to use skills such as reassurance and persuasion to enable and encourage the patient.
- To assess less complex patients as directed by the registered clinician. Formulate straightforward treatment plans with the guidance of a registered clinician. Using a holistic person-centred approach, 'identify what is important to the patient’ and jointly formulate goals for rehabilitation and discharge options. Communicate these goals to the registered clinician.
- To be competent when issuing basic equipment to facilitate activities of daily living and mobility, with the support of a registered clinician. Monitor and maintain ward stock levels.
- To understand the reablement approach and facilitate washing and dressing activities which will likely include elements of personal care tasks.
- Participate in supporting the normal daily routine of the patient, this may involve manoeuvring limbs whilst aiding the patient.
- To participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences and daily huddles to facilitate discharge planning.
- To communicate effectively with the patient, family, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team both verbally and electronically as needed.
- To advise members of patients’ families, carers and nursing staff in correct manual handling procedures in relation to specific patients in your care.
- To report to registered staff any patient that gives cause for concern or any observed changes in a patient’s clinical condition.
- To support patient’s emotional well-being by supporting positive conversations, actively encouraging, and promoting independence on a range of activities of daily living.
- To accurately document all care delivered to patient
