We currently have a vacancy within our Ophthalmology Directorate for an Apprentice Receptionist.
- This is a fixed term contract for 14 months* We as a Trust encourage and support your progression beyond your Apprenticeship and will be here to help

We are very proud of our Apprentice success rates, with 92% of Apprentices successfully obtaining a substantive post within the Trust at the end of their Apprenticeship contract, and 98% of Apprentices having further plans in place following their Apprenticeship e.g. going on to further education, joining the NNUH staff bank or obtaining employment at another organisation.

**Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria**:
**All applicants must be**:

- Aged 16+
- Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
- Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

**Qualifications and Skills Required**:

- Good general standard of education
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good IT skills

**Full time**: 37.5 hours per week

Supervision and support (direct and indirect) will be provided during all tasks, with progression being dependent on the completion of set objectives throughout the 14 months. This will enable the apprentice to work within the organisation to gain confidence, experience and build a portfolio of evidence for apprenticeship accreditation.

- To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
- To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department.
- To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
- To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
- To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
- To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work.
- To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the Department.
- To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the Department.
- To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate.
