Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Full time

Position Overview

The field of Geriatric Medicine has transformed significantly to cater to the increasing demographic of individuals aged 80 and above.

Our department is the most extensive within the organization, providing care across five specialized inpatient wards and outpatient services. Each ward is dedicated to a specific area of expertise within this specialty: Brundall, Dunston, Earsham, Loddon, and Elsing Ward.

Dunston and Brundall Wards focus on acute care for patients with intricate cognitive challenges and complex health requirements. Earsham Ward caters to patients needing surgical intervention for hip fractures. Loddon Ward is designed for short-term admissions, typically facilitating discharge within 3-5 days. Elsing Ward is a dedicated unit for Dementia care, with tailored staff and environments to address the unique needs of these patients.

Each ward comprises teams responsible for patient care, including registered and unregistered staff members. Our team includes apprentice healthcare assistants, international nurses, temporary staff, newcomers to healthcare, and nursing students. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care and support to patients and their families, particularly those nearing the end of life, with assistance from our specialist nurse in dementia palliative care.

Key Responsibilities

Are you ready to embrace a rewarding challenge?

If you possess outstanding communication abilities, a caring and compassionate nature, and a desire to enhance patient experiences daily, we invite you to consider this opportunity.

We are on the lookout for dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated Band 3 Lead Care Support Specialists to join our welcoming and committed team. You will receive comprehensive support and access to training and development opportunities.

Candidates should exhibit excellent communication skills and a readiness to embrace new challenges.

Our wards prioritize minimizing patient deconditioning during hospital stays, supported by trained exercise professionals. We celebrate significant occasions within our ward environments and actively involve patients and their families. We are in the planning stages for a specialized Dementia Garden, designed to offer a secure and interactive outdoor space for our patients, their families, and staff.
