Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Senior Governance lead with the necessary experience, credibility and leadership capability to support Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust in its journey towards outstanding. We seek someone with a proven background in Clinical Governance, Risk, Compliance and Quality Improvement who also has the necessary acumen to manage our contractual requirements both with commissioners and external regulators. The applicant should also have experience in managing and developing teams, ability to instil a culture of continuous quality improvement, be educated to Masters Level and have a comprehensive understanding of NHS Policy, legal and inspection frameworks.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Governance will provide specialist and professional advice to the Trust Senior Management Team on all matters relating to Quality Governance particularly, in meeting its legal and statutory duties as set by the Department of Health and delegated authorities such as NHS England & Improvement and the Care Quality Commission.

The post holder will have a leadership role, working closely with the Director of Integrated Governance, Chief Nurse and Medical Director to create an environment which promotes and supports safety for our patients staff and visitors; enabling the trust to provide the right care for patients and that the experience of service users and their carers is included in our learning agenda

Job responsibilities

The postholder will ensure that there are effective monitoring processes in place, Ward to Board integrated reporting that will promote effective escalation of risks and concerns that have the potential to affect patient outcomes or compliance standards.

The post holder will lead on a number of quality improvement initiatives, implementing quality, safety and risk across the organisation, including embedding of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical effectiveness initiatives across all levels of the organisation.

The physical effort required for this post includes sitting at a computer workstation for greater parts of the day, walking and light physical effort for short periods. There is a frequent requirement for concentration to analyse and report accurate data and the work pattern is unpredictable. The post holder will experience frequent indirect exposure to highly distressing case histories connected to producing written reports and responses. Exposure to unpleasant working conditions is rare.

The Associate Director of Governance will also deputise for the Director of Integrated Governance as required.

Education and Training

Relevant clinical qualification or equitable level of experience within Governance Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience Evidence of continuous personal development at senior management level (equivalent of GM level)

Substantial proven experience of working at a senior level within the Health Service being familiar with corporate objectives and strategies Experience of leading and managing change Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams Experience of designing and delivering training programmes

Negotiation, influencing and communication skills Extensive (or high level of) knowledge of all aspects of clinical governance and linkages between clinical audit, research, clinical risk management, clinical governance and the legal & statutory issues relating to the NHS Extensive experience in the management of complex situations including dealing with confidential and highly sensitive information
