Job summary

This is anexciting opportunity to be involved in the restructure of psychology serviceswithin Specialist Palliative Care Services across Sunderland and SouthTyneside. You will form part of a team of psychologists and psychologicalpractitioners to continue to develop and embed psychology services for patientsand relatives accessing specialist palliative care services and within Head andNeck Cancer Services.

As a Band 7practitioner you will be provided with line management and one to one clinicalsupervision by an experienced and senior psychologist within the department andhave access to CPD and the support of the wider department. We work closelywith University of Sunderland colleagues and so there are opportunities forresearch and service evaluations. Psychology is a highly valued within STSFT andyou will be supported to continue to develop and grow the service.

Main duties of the job

This role iswell suited to someone who has an interest in working within physical healthservices and working as part of a wider MDT. The role of a Band 7 practitionerwill be diverse and there are opportunities to not only develop and consolidatecore therapeutic clinical skills, but also develop skills and experience indevising and delivering training, providing consultation and supervision to MDTmembers. The post holder may have previous experiences of working withinphysical health services or with physical health conditions, but this is notessential.

There areopportunities to form part of Specialist Interest Groups both regionally andnationally, and the post holder will be supported to develop within their role.

There isflexibility with work patterns, including part time work and condensed hours.

The Clinical Health Psychology Services at STSFT iscontinuing to grow and expand, and we are looking to appoint a Band 7psychological practitioner. The post will be based within our SpecialistPalliative Care Service as well as the Head and Neck Cancer Team. There are opportunities for continued CPD andskills development and the service has a number of psychologists trained invarying therapeutic modalities including CBT, CAT, EMDT, CFT and ACT.

You will expected to work autonomously in relationto managing your own caseload and beresponsible for the planning and organisation of your clinics and theimplementation of evidence-based psychological interventions in both group andindividual settings to meet the patients psychological needs.

There will be opportunities for research clinicalaudit depending on service need and the interests of the post holder. Supervisionand support will be provided by a senior clinical psychologists. As a servicewe have a mix of professions working within our MDT services including aspecialist nurse, specialist physiotherapists and a specialist OT.

Experience

Experience of working within the NHS. Experience of working within a multi-professional team Experience of working with adults who have mental health difficulties. Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for patients psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan with appropriate supervision.

Desirable

Experience of teaching and training non-psychologists in psychological therapy skills. Experience of facilitating CBT based group programmes Experience of application of psychology in different cultural settings Experience of working in physical health services.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology and two or more distinct psychological therapies including CBT. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Ability to use the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written To convey/receive highly complex/sensitive information effectively requiring empathy and reassurance in a highly emotive atmosphere. Ability to make clinical and service related judgements involving complex facts requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of excellent organisational skills to manage a range of clinical activities Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice An understanding of the importance and function of personal boundaries and how to manage and maintain them. Qualifications

Essential

An upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership with British Psychological Society (BPS) Post-graduate Applied Psychology training accredited by HCPC allowing registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS) HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist OR Qualification from High Intensity IAPT Course (Post Graduate Diploma) Accredited with the BABCP OR Recorded/registered core professional qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy plus further post graduate qualification training in a in CBT. Accredited with the BABCP. OR Recorded/registered core professional qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy plus further post graduate qualification training in Cognitive Analytical Therapy. Accredited with ACAT as a CAT Practitioner and/or UKCP registered as a CAT Psychotherapist.

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies. Additional training in evidence based trauma interventions.
