Advanced Emergency Care Specialist

Sunderland, Sunderland, United Kingdom South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a qualified Health Care Professional to join the Emergency Care team as an Advanced Emergency Care Specialist (Band 7) within the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

The Emergency Departments at our Trust boast a robust team of Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), and Emergency Care Practitioners (ECPs) ranging from Band 8b to Band 6. This collaborative environment allows for outstanding supervision and professional development for all staff members.

The successful candidate will be tasked with evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients with a diverse array of clinical presentations, including medical, surgical, and trauma cases. There may also be opportunities to mentor junior team members. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires coverage across a 24-hour period, rotating between the main Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to delivering high-quality care within the Emergency Department. While experience in emergency care is crucial, there are numerous educational opportunities available to enhance skills and knowledge. A structured work-based educational and clinical supervision program is in place, and successful candidates will be expected to adhere to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) curriculum and actively engage in portfolio completion.

We encourage candidates to arrange an informal visit to the department upon receiving an interview invitation.

Main Responsibilities

What we offer:

  • An induction program tailored for new staff
  • A weekly protected in-house teaching program
  • Funded access to the RCEM e-portfolio
  • Clinical education integrated into practice
  • Support from a named consultant and ACP
  • Opportunities for advancement across the four pillars of advanced practice

Key Qualifications

  • Registered Health Care Professional (NMC/HCPC)
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree
  • Completion of a university-accredited clinical skills course
  • Experience as an autonomous practitioner in the acute care setting
  • Willingness to maintain an advanced practice portfolio
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification is required

Applicants who do not meet the non-medical prescribing requirement will start on Annex 21 and undergo a period of competency-based training.

In accordance with Annex 21 of AfC, pay is determined as a percentage of the pay scale. For training periods lasting up to 12 months, 75% of Band 7 pay is applicable. Upon completion of training, individuals will transition to the appropriate Band 7 pay scale.
