The neonatal unit operates on a three tier medical rota, tier 1 junior doctors/junior ACP, tier 2 middle grade doctor/senior Neonatal Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), tier 3 neonatal consultants. To undertake tier 2 duties on the neonatal rota with provision of 24 hour care, 7 days a week and function at a senior practitioner level, to provide autonomous clinical care: Initiate and assume responsibility for the immediate, critical and ongoing management of sick neonates and have freedom to interpret and act within broad policies and protocols as expected at tier 2. Practise independent and supplementary prescribing as per the department of health initiative to allow for safe and efficient access to medication administration at the point of need.

Work as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary neonatal team at Tier 2 level, using evidence based approach together with advanced clinical skills to provide holistic care for the neonate and family. The post holder must: Assume a leading role and responsibility in evidence based clinical practice. Be a competent practitioner, leading innovation and demonstrating clinical expertise to a complex case load. Act as a resource and advisor, providing expertise to the multi-disciplinary team.

Provide individualised family orientated care utilising advanced clinical skills. Support and facilitate the education and training of other members of the neonatal team, including doctors and nurses at all levels. Comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.
