PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DUTIES OF THE ROLE. To provide an extended specialist role within the Orthoptic department which includes neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric and adult strabismus and visiting the acute stroke ward and the rehabilitation ward to undertake highly specialised assessments. To form a diagnosis and provide guidance to clinicians for use in planning rehabilitation for patients with complex conditions and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Advanced orthoptists will undertake a clinical leadership role and require specialist knowledge within the neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus Orthoptic service discipline.

They will help to develop staff working within this domain. Advanced orthoptists are responsible for helping to maintain policies within all aspects of the Orthoptic service domain. To provide teaching, supervision and support to Orthoptic undergraduate students and to deliver presentations and teaching to other teams (including medical staff and other AHPs). To provide comprehensive, high quality Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner.
