Sunderland, Sunderland, United Kingdom South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a skilled Health Care Professional to join the Emergency Care team as an Advanced Emergency Care Specialist (Band 7) within the Emergency Departments of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

The Emergency Departments at STSFT boast a robust team of Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), and Emergency Care Practitioners (ECPs) ranging from Band 8b to Band 6. This structure allows us to offer a comprehensive supervision and development program for our staff.

The successful candidate will be tasked with evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients presenting with a diverse array of clinical conditions, including medical, surgical, and trauma cases. There may also be opportunities to mentor junior team members. Flexibility in covering shifts across a 24-hour period is essential, as the role will involve rotation between the main Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre across both sites.

The ideal candidate should be committed to delivering high-quality service within the Emergency Department. Experience in emergency care is crucial; however, educational opportunities are available to enhance skills and knowledge. A continuous work-based educational and clinical supervision program is in place, and successful candidates will be expected to adhere to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) curriculum and actively engage in portfolio completion.

We encourage prospective candidates to consider an informal visit to the department upon receiving an interview invitation.

Main Responsibilities

What we offer:

  • An induction program for new staff
  • A weekly protected in-house teaching program
  • Funded access to the RCEM e-portfolio
  • Clinical education in practice
  • Support from a named consultant and ACP
  • Opportunities for advancement across the four pillars of advanced practice

Key Qualifications for Applicants

  • Registered Health Care Professional (NMC/HCPC)
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree
  • Completion of a university-accredited clinical skills course
  • Experience working as an autonomous practitioner in the acute care sector
  • Willingness to maintain an advanced practice portfolio
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification is required

For individuals who do not meet the non-medical prescribing requirement, entry will commence on Annex 21, with a period of supported competency-based training.

In accordance with Annex 21 of Agenda for Change, pay is determined as a percentage of the pay scale. For training periods lasting up to 12 months, 75% of Band 7 pay is applicable. Upon completion of training, individuals will be assimilated back to their previous pay point if they were already in a Band 7 role.
