Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our senior clinical leadership team as the Deputy Divisional Head of Nursing for Surgery and Cancer.

The position will work daily with the Divisional Head of Nursing and be an integral part of the senior management divisional triumvirate to help influence strategic direction and vision.

The role will require a proven record of senior leadership experience. You will be required to supervise and develop departmental leaders, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Using compassionate and inclusive leadership skills you will be expected to promote high standards of clinical care. Governance and risk management is essential to patient safety; therefore you will need a good working knowledge PSIRF principles.

Communication skills are essential, along with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, to work with a wide range of individuals and be able to connect with a division of over 1200 staff.

You will be instrumental in promoting the nursing and AHP agenda by supporting the Divisional Head of Nursing and deputising in their absence. You will be required to deliver nursing objectives that help transform patient pathways and improve patient experience.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the Divisional Head of Nursing, Divisional Director and Associate Medical Directors, assist with the implementation the implementation and delivery of the Clinical Service Strategy across the Division

Ensure the Nursing agenda is delivered by providing leadership and acting on behalf of the Divisional Head of Nursing

Provide line management to Matrons and Senior Nurses

Ensure Nursing quality reaches agreed standards

Establish systems to ensure sufficient nurses and AHPs are available to deliver high quality care

Ensure Nursing resource is used effectively, contributing to continuous improvement and increased productivity

Provide expert advice to the Division on all Nursing matters

Deliver agreed corporate schemes

To write reports and presentations for formal Groups and Boards

Qualifications

Essential

RGN, Nursing Masters Degree or equivalent experience NMC Registered A minimum of 2 years in a recent senior Nursing role in an acute setting

Desirable

Experience in Acute Surgery or Cancer or Critical care or Surgical Specialties

Experience

Significant experience of leading clinical teams in a range of specialities In depth leadership/management knowledge Knowledge of the governance agenda and role of Care Quality Standards.
