Overview of the Role

This position is a temporary engagement for a duration of three months. Candidates must be prepared to commence employment without delay.

We are in search of a qualified interim Operational Manager to assume the responsibilities of Cancer Services Manager at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Collaborating closely with the Lead Cancer Clinician and Oncology Matron, the selected candidate will ensure empathetic and effective management of Cancer Services while spearheading strategic initiatives that align with the Trust's Clinical Services Strategy.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven history of performance management and achieving key NHS objectives, including adherence to all cancer standards and expedited diagnosis protocols. A comprehensive understanding of the national cancer agenda is essential.

You should demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork, accountability, and the ability to thrive under pressure, coupled with a dedication to innovation and ongoing enhancement of services. Furthermore, you will collaborate with system partners to facilitate the transformation of local cancer services and pathways to better serve our community's needs.

Additionally, you will oversee the operational management of oncology services provided within the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Leighton Hospital, which is supported by Tertiary Cancer Centres.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Cancer Leadership Team, working in close partnership with Clinical Leads, Service Management Teams, Nurse Specialists, and all Allied Healthcare Professionals involved in cancer care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining systems and processes to ensure comprehensive assessment, appropriate planning, effective implementation, and evaluation of services in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Providing operational management for designated services, offering expertise, advice, and guidance from a broad knowledge base to enhance services by anticipating needs and implementing changes in line with Divisional objectives and evolving healthcare demands.
  • Leading the review and development of service and workforce plans, in collaboration with other services, Divisions, the broader healthcare community, and external agencies, in accordance with current national and local requirements.
  • Analyzing and acting on data to proactively manage and uphold NHS targets, including regular reporting on cancer performance, quality, and compliance across various internal and external forums.
