The post will provide the candidate with a broad base of Anaesthetics (general,obstetric and ITU medicine) within a DGH setting.

This post is suited to applicants with a minimum of 3 years experience of anaesthesia and ITU and we would particularly welcome applicants with an interest in peri operative medicine.

Main duties of the job

Hospital has 10 main operating theatres and 3 Day Surgery theatres. Anaesthesia is also provided for Obstetrics in the delivery suite. The Anaesthetic Department covers all the major surgical specialties, including Orthopaedics, Trauma, CEPOD, Bariatrics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Gynaecology, Breast, Paediatrics, Dental, Colorectal, Urology and Ophthalmology. Cover is also provided for the Radiology, Endoscopy and the Emergency Departments.

Worthing Hospital has 9 main theatres for General, Vascular, Orthopaedic, Urology, Colorectal, Breast, Trauma, Gynaecology, ENT, and Maxillofacial surgery in addition to covering the Obstetric theatre, A&E and regular ECT sessions which occur in a purpose built ECT suite at Meadowfield, a Psychiatric Hospital on the Northwest edge of the town. Anaesthesia is also provided for Radiology and Endoscopy in a dedicated endoscopy suite. Southlands Hospital 6 miles away, predominantly functions as a Day Surgery Unit which is a pleasant drive along the seafront.

The Anaesthetic department is also responsible for the running of the Intensive Care Units, the Acute and Chronic Pain services, Pre-assessment and Obstetric anaesthesia services on both sites.

Essential criteria

Basic medical degree Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme. Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)
