Pathology Workforce Practice Educator

To implement and deliver the National Pathology Workforce Rapid Intervention Plan. Support the ongoing requirement to increase the pathology laboratory scientific and support workforce from Band 2 5, delivering CoVID-19 testing in response to the continuing global pandemic. To work alongside existing laboratory training managers and leads within networks South 7 and 8 to mentor and rapidly increase the skills of Biomedical Science graduates, school leavers and Medical/Veterinary Science students to produce additional scientific and support workforce for hospital pathology laboratories. Key Working Relationships The post holders key relationships will be with: Internal: Chief Nurse; Chief AHP, Head of Nursing & Midwifery Education, Nurse & AHP Executive Board; Medical Director; Director of Integrated Education; Members of Education and Knowledge Board; Directorate of Education and Knowledge colleagues; UHSx education staff; AHP & HCS staff delivering education, Practice Development nurses and education staff within the directorate; Directors, managers and leads in other corporate directorates and clinical divisions; Lead for Workforce Planning; Head of Pharmacy.
Multi-disciplinary education leads NMP and PGD group members. External: Head of School of Health Sciences University of Brighton (UoB), Senior Management Team at School of Health Sciences, Course Leaders at School of Health Sciences, Workforce planning staff at the HEKSS, Education and Quality teams at HEKSS, Education and workforce leads ICS Sussex, Professional colleagues in the local health economy and other university teaching trusts, AHP Sussex Council and Faculty, Regional AHP and HCS leads. Main Duties and Responsibilities Work closely with Pathology Incident Director and Molecular/CoVID Testing Laboratory Leads across the network to support delivery and sign off of rapid knowledge and competencies related to COVID-19 testing. Coordinate local delivery of on-line core knowledge modules.
Carry out stakeholder engagement to identify needs and plan best possible delivery methods. Engage with Pathology Incident Director, Pathology Laboratory Training Managers/Leads and Education Leads to identify and fast track staff close to achieving HCPC registration. Cooperation between employers to deliver all required competencies to make delivery financially and logístically viable. Work regionally to develop mechanisms to enable timely career pathways for all staff e.g.
overseeing and sign off the completion of IBMS portfolios Support the Apprenticeship Lead to identify staff career progression and create an environment capable of supporting HCS Apprenticeships Maintaining up to date knowledge of the changing landscape of apprenticeships and funding routes for Healthcare Science Develop links both regionally and nationally with the network of Practice Educators to capitalise on best practice and economy of scale. Develop bespoke programmes of work to meet both national and regional requirements. Liaise with existing laboratory training officers to support and predict workforce planning needs across the Pathology Network. Work flexibly across the geographical area, work safely in different environments as required.
Communication Providing regular updates to Pathology South 7 Network including the Workforce workstream, Education Board re-education, provision and evaluation Able to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff Trust wide marketing of Education Resources/Provision Represent Pathology Network South 7 locally and nationally at networks and conferences Able to deliver presentations to multi professional audience To provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information where agreement or co-operation is required; this may involve large groups where you are giving bad news to colleagues where funding cannot be provided. Use highly developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams. Use political judgment in understanding and working with complex policy and diverse interest groups. Be able to support a range of staff and quality/ audit/ clinical services/ professional activity Liaise with Pathology Practice Educators nationally and feedback locally any updates.
Represent Pathology Network South 7 with communication to NHSEI. Prepare and submit funding bids and business cases to NHSEI. Chair and coordinate network Pathology training and education meetings. Service Delivery and Improvement To be responsible for the Pathology education allocation budget covering all relevant staff and departments across the organisation.
