Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The successful candidate will collaborate with the PACU Team Leader and the Perioperative Practice Education Team to foster and advance evidence-based clinical practices within the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit. You will play a pivotal role in cultivating a supportive learning atmosphere, promoting reflective practices through the execution of clinically oriented teaching and education that empowers PACU practitioners to meet their ongoing professional and personal development objectives. Additionally, you will provide both clinical and managerial assistance to the PACU Team Leader, offering clinical guidance, support, and advice to colleagues while overseeing PACU operations in the Team Leader's absence.

Main Responsibilities

  • Establish a nurturing learning environment and advocate for a culture of reflective practice to enhance learning, delivering constructive feedback and educational guidance to nursing staff regarding their professional and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with the PACU Team Leader and PACU Band 6s to assist staff in developing personal development plans and portfolios.
  • Lead the design and execution of the PACU education pathway and training across the broader Theatres department, ensuring all personnel possess the necessary skills and knowledge, utilizing initiative and discretion to manage workload independently.
  • Serve as a resource for staff, providing instruction, support, and guidance to perioperative staff and students, while appropriately addressing poor practices with sensitivity and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Act in place of the Team Leader by organizing and planning clinical activities regularly, taking responsibility for the daily management of a team, and prioritizing both elective and emergency patient care within the perioperative setting.
  • Maintain and enhance your own specialized clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Disseminate relevant and accurate information to PACU practitioners and the wider perioperative team, promoting the philosophy of evidence-based practice by analyzing, interpreting, and applying research findings to ensure effective and innovative nursing practices.

  • Assist in standardizing and maintaining accurate data records in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Work alongside the PACU Team Leader, perioperative practice education team, Theatre Managers, and theatre Team Leaders to develop standards and guidelines that support staff training and development.
