Islington London, North London, United Kingdom Hestia Housing Support Full time

Due to the nature of this position, the post is open to women only and is exempt under the Equality Act 2010, schedule 9, part 1)

We are Hestia. We make a difference.

At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. We provide a range of services, including Domestic Abuse support, Modern Slavery assistance, Mental Health & Complex Needs care, and Criminal Justice. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence.

The service you will work in….

Approved Premises (APs) work with high-risk offenders, providing a vital element in public protection arrangements. APs offer a level of contact, support and supervision within the community that is unique within the Criminal Justice System. This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated, enthusiastic staff team, playing a key role in pro-social modelling, rehabilitation and community reintegration for those ready to make positive choices. Working closely with Offender Managers and community services, we provide a steppingstone from prison into the community. The residents we work with come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, but all have been released from prison on Licence, effectively serving the final part of their sentence in the community. Referrals are received through a central referral system operated by London division of the National Probation Service. Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the resident's life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a wide range of agencies. This allows staff and residents to work together to continue on a journey of recovery and achieve meaningful, positive change.

A day in this role looks like….

As a Intervention Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Criminal Justice service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Providing support and leading meaning interventions and purposeful Activities to encourage recovery in the residents of the Approved Premises. In particular, this involves monitoring and encouraging, guiding, advising and supervising residents, all the time ensuring that public protection is at the very core of all work carried out.
  • Providing admin and other support to colleagues, particularly in the preparation, facilitation and evaluation of purposeful activities
  • Ensuring all tasks detailed on the daily task sheets are carried out
  • Following protocols, encouraging compliance and taking enforcement action as necessary, in particular around drug and alcohol testing requirements and curfew

Why Hestia?

Joining Hestia means more than just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of something bigger. We offer a supportive, inclusive and resolution driven work environment where your contributions are recognised and valued. As a member of our team, you will have the chance to grow both personally and professionally while making a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

We are looking for candidates who bring a combination of passion, expertise, and dedication to the table. To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults, ideally those with experience of the Criminal Justice System
  • An understanding of the emotional and behavioural impact of trauma and the ability to work with people who may be display a range of emotions, behaviours and communication challenges
  • The ability to work as part of a team, leading by example, taking a pragmatic, hands on approach to practical tasks such as cooking, gardening and other ‘household' chores and leisure activities
