Part-Time Position: 22.5 Hours Weekly

We are seeking a dedicated Social Worker to provide support to the Council's Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team and enhance practice within the Intake and Assessment sector. This position requires a commitment of 3 days per week, with a hybrid work model necessitating at least 1 day of office presence. This dual-function role will focus on improving practices in Intake and Assessment while overseeing a small team of 5 practitioners.

Children's services acknowledge that effective Practice Leadership is crucial for empowering professionals to deliver high-quality support. This role will enable the management of the UASC team, participation in strategic initiatives, and collaboration with Team Managers and Operational Managers to foster development in Intake and Assessment, particularly in facilitating career advancement from Newly Qualified Social Workers to Senior Social Workers.

Responsibilities in UASC

The role involves promoting effective assessments for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, including those undergoing Age Assessment or Dispute. Responsibilities include care planning, intervention, and case reviews for UASC, ensuring that children in need of care or protection receive appropriate support. This may involve initiating legal proceedings to safeguard children while considering their immigration status and rights. Coordination with partners and third-sector organizations is essential to provide optimal services for UASC children and young people.

Responsibilities in Intake and Assessment

The Intake and Assessment team operates in a dynamic environment, reflecting Cardiff's diverse demographic. Practitioners are tasked with conducting Well-being and S47 assessments, delivering short-term interventions to enhance family safety. Cases are typically held for a brief duration, with long-term responsibilities transferred at the initial planning meeting. The team follows a duty rota, allowing for structured planning and documentation of work. Involvement in care and private law proceedings may also be required. The Cardiff Intake and Assessment Teams are comprised of experienced professionals who support one another during challenging situations, employing a strengths-based model to achieve the best outcomes for families. Continuous professional development is prioritized, with training opportunities available for all employees.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Experience in a similar role
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for one
  • Three years of referencing
