Compensation: £41.28 via Umbrella Company

Part-time Position: 22.5 hours weekly

We are seeking a dedicated Social Worker to enhance the Councils' Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team and contribute to Practice Improvement within the Intake and Assessment framework. This position requires a commitment of 3 days a week, with a hybrid working model necessitating at least 1 day in the office. This multifaceted role encompasses both leadership in practice development and management of a small team of 5 practitioners.

Children's services acknowledge that effective Practice Leadership is crucial for empowering professionals to deliver high-quality support. This dual-function role will enable the management of the UASC team, engagement in strategic initiatives, and collaboration with Team Managers and Operational Managers to enhance practices in Intake and Assessment, particularly in facilitating career advancement from Newly Qualified Social Workers to Senior Social Workers.

Responsibilities in UASC

The successful candidate will promote and conduct thorough assessments of Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, including those undergoing Age Assessment or Dispute. This includes care planning, intervention, and review processes for UASC cases, addressing the needs of children requiring care and protection, and considering legal proceedings necessary for safeguarding. Additionally, this role involves planning placements and coordinating with partner organizations and third-sector entities to ensure optimal service delivery for UASC children and young individuals.

Responsibilities in Intake and Assessment

The Intake and Assessment team operates in a dynamic environment, characterized by Cardiff's diverse demographic. Practitioners are responsible for conducting Well-being and Section 47 assessments, providing short-term interventions aimed at enhancing family safety. Cases are typically held for brief periods, with long-term cases transitioned at the initial planning meeting. The team operates on a duty rota, allowing for structured planning and documentation of work. Practitioners may also engage in care and private law proceedings. The Cardiff Intake and Assessment Teams are composed of experienced professionals who support one another during challenging situations, employing a strengths-based model to achieve the best outcomes for families. Qualifications Required:

  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Experience in a similar capacity
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for a DBS with 3 years of referencing
