Part-Time Position: 22.5 Hours per Week

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Social Worker to enhance the Councils' Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team and contribute to Practice Improvement within the Intake and Assessment framework. This role requires a commitment of 3 days per week, with a hybrid working model that includes a minimum of 1 day in the office. This dual function will focus on elevating practice standards in Intake and Assessment while overseeing a small team of 5 UASC practitioners. The remuneration for this position is £33 PAYE or £41.28 Umbrella, in accordance with the All Wales Pledge.

Role Responsibilities:

Children's services acknowledge that effective Practice Leadership is crucial for empowering professionals to excel in their roles. This position will enable the management of the UASC team, participation in strategic initiatives, and support for Team Managers and Operational Managers in enhancing practice in Intake and Assessment, particularly in fostering career advancement from Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW) to Senior Social Workers.

UASC Responsibilities:

The role involves promoting thorough assessments of Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, including those undergoing Age Assessment/Dispute. This encompasses care planning, intervention, and review for UASC cases, including children in need of care and protection, and situations where legal proceedings may be necessary to safeguard children while considering their immigration status and rights. This requires collaboration with partners and third-sector organizations to ensure UASC children and young people receive optimal services.

Intake and Assessment Responsibilities:

The Intake and Assessment team operates in a fast-paced and diverse environment, reflective of Cardiff's demographic landscape. Practitioners conduct Well-being and S47 assessments and provide short-term interventions aimed at enhancing family safety. Cases are typically held for a brief duration, with long-term cases transitioned at the initial planning meeting. The team operates on a duty rota, allowing for structured and organized work planning. Practitioners may also engage in care and private law proceedings. The Cardiff Intake and Assessment Teams are composed of seasoned professionals who provide mutual support during challenging periods, working creatively under a strengths-based model to achieve the best outcomes for families. Continuous professional development is prioritized, with training opportunities available to all employees.

Qualifications Required:

  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for a DBS
  • Three years of professional references
