Family Support Social Worker

Greetings, I am Jenifer Dewar, Assistant Director for Family Support at Norfolk County Council. We take pride in being recognized as a 'Good' authority with 'exceptional leadership'. Our Social Work Teams are highly valued, and we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for all our practitioners.

This is a pivotal moment to become part of the frontline Social Work teams at Norfolk, following the introduction of our innovative operating model. Family Support aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Children's Social Care Review and the Government's response, Stable Homes Built on Love (2023). This model enhances the successful strategies we have implemented for our children, families, and practitioners in Norfolk.

The Family Support teams are composed of multi-disciplinary professionals collaborating to address the needs of children, emphasizing relationship-building, direct engagement, and extended family networks to facilitate sustainable change. Our teams consist of 22 practitioners, including seven or eight social workers, alongside family support workers, specialized practitioners, assistant managers, and team managers. Cases are overseen by the entire prevention and protection teams, ensuring families receive targeted interventions at an early stage, thereby improving outcomes for our children and families. This approach has yielded significant benefits for our Social Workers, including reduced intervention times and minimized paperwork.

By joining us, you will be part of an authority that prioritizes your wellbeing, champions flexible working arrangements, and invests in the development of practitioners, ensuring everyone feels valued as part of the Norfolk County Council family.

We are seeking qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, who possess experience in Child Protection, Assessments, and Court Work. Ideal candidates will be excellent team players who share our vision of achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families.

We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups at Norfolk County Council, including Black and Global Majority practitioners, as we are dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within our Family Support teams.

For further inquiries regarding our roles, please reach out to our designated contact.

Before submitting your application, we recommend reviewing the full Job Description and Person Specification to effectively demonstrate how you meet the criteria.

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement with options to buy and sell leave
