London, Greater London, United Kingdom Norfolk County Council Full time

Family Support Social Worker

Greetings, I am Jenifer Dewar, Assistant Director for Family Support at Norfolk County Council. We take pride in being recognized as a 'Good' authority with 'exceptional leadership'. Our Social Work Teams are highly valued, and we appreciate the contributions of all our practitioners.

This is a remarkable opportunity to become part of the frontline Social Work teams at Norfolk, particularly following the introduction of our innovative operating model. The Family Support initiative aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Children's Social Care Review and the Government's response, Stable Homes Built on Love (2023). It enhances the successful strategies we have implemented for our children, families, and practitioners in Norfolk over the years. We are on the verge of rolling out this approach across the county after a highly successful trial phase.

The Family Support teams comprise multi-disciplinary professionals collaborating to address the needs of children within a framework that emphasizes relationships, direct engagement, and extended family networks to facilitate sustainable change. Our teams consist of 22 practitioners, including seven or eight social workers, along with family support workers, specialized practitioners, assistant managers, and team managers. Cases are managed collaboratively by the prevention and protection teams, ensuring families receive targeted interventions at an early stage, thereby improving outcomes for our children and families. This approach has also yielded significant benefits for our Social Workers, including reduced intervention times and minimized paperwork.

You will be joining an organization that prioritizes your well-being, champions flexible working arrangements, and fosters the development of practitioners, ensuring everyone feels valued as part of the Norfolk County Council family.

We are seeking qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, who possess experience in Child Protection, Assessments, and Court Work. Ideal candidates will be excellent team players who share our vision of achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families.

We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups within Norfolk County Council, including Black and Global Majority practitioners, as we are committed to promoting equality and diversity within our Family Support teams.

For an informal discussion about our roles, please reach out to our team.

Before applying, we recommend reviewing the complete Job Description and Person Specification to help you demonstrate how you meet the criteria.

Here are some benefits you can enjoy by working for Norfolk County Council:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement with options to buy and sell leave
  • Health and Wellbeing services, including fast-track physiotherapy and complimentary counseling services
  • Flexible working opportunities, including flexi-time, part-time, remote, and hybrid working, depending on your role and business needs.
