Position Overview

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Specialist: Early Intervention in Psychosis and At Risk Mental State

We are seeking a qualified Cognitive Behaviour Therapist with specialized training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) to join our Early Intervention in Psychosis service. This role will emphasize the identification of patients at risk of developing psychosis and the delivery of CBT, alongside addressing any bio-psycho-social challenges that may arise outside of therapy sessions. The therapist will also engage in various non-ARMS responsibilities throughout the week, including but not limited to: providing CBT for non-ARMS patients, supervising pre-qualification staff on CBTp placements, overseeing Assistant Psychologists, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Team Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify patients at risk using assessment tools and strategies.
  • Provide individual Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to at-risk patients.
  • Facilitate group psychoeducation and group CBT sessions.
  • Address and resolve bio-psycho-social issues that arise outside of therapy.
  • Deliver individual CBTp to non-ARMS patients.
  • Supervise pre-qualification staff in their CBTp training.
  • Receive supervision from the designated CBTp Supervisor.
  • Oversee band 6 Care Coordinators, including nurses and social workers.
  • Contribute to daily multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist the Team Manager in the effective operation of the Early Intervention Service.
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues to enhance service quality based on evidence-based practices and guidelines.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver training relevant to the role to team members.
  • Act as a professional role model, maintaining high standards of conduct.
  • Ensure clinical and management supervision is implemented for team staff in accordance with policy.
  • Make informed judgments on complex situations requiring careful analysis.
  • Maintain focus and concentration over extended periods.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Qualified CBT Therapist eligible for accreditation.
  • Completion of additional CBTp training.
  • A core profession in nursing, social work, psychology, or occupational therapy.

Desirable

  • Accreditation as a CBT Therapist.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience delivering CBTp to clients within the NHS.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in the NHS.
  • Experience in a multicultural environment, including working with interpreters.

Desirable

  • Experience in an NHS ARMS service.
  • Experience providing CBTp in an Early Intervention in Psychosis context.
  • Experience as a Care Coordinator for patients with severe mental health issues.
  • Experience supervising multidisciplinary staff.
  • Experience in developing operational policies for community psychosis.
  • Experience supervising pre-qualification staff in CBT training.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge of NICE guidelines related to ARMS and Early Intervention.
  • Advanced understanding of CBT principles applied to clinical practice, particularly for severe mental health disorders.
  • Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations.
  • Expertise in risk identification and management in psychosis.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage caseloads and treatment programs.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex information effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of clinical governance mechanisms.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge in various contexts.
  • Capacity for sustained concentration.
