Job Summary

The Firearms Licensing Administrative & Enquiry Officer will be responsible for assessing and scrutinizing firearms licensing applications, ensuring public safety and managing risk. The role involves evaluating and assessing new incidents, intelligence, and notifications of change linked to certificate holders, identifying any risk to public safety and taking appropriate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and scrutinize firearms licensing applications, including interrogation of police computer systems and social media sites.
  • Identify risk and offences of non-disclosure and/or certificate breaches.
  • Evaluate and assess new incidents, intelligence, and notifications of change linked to certificate holders.
  • Conduct regular reviews with certificate holders and complete rationale reports to inform decision-making.
  • Attend court as required.
  • Visit applicants and certificate holders at their home addresses to interview them and inspect security arrangements.
  • Provide specialist advice to internal and external customers in relation to firearms legislation.
