Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to enhancing public safety through impactful interventions aimed at improving the lives of young individuals, while also fortifying families and communities.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice is on the lookout for a qualified and proactive Therapist to:

  • Deliver evidence-based mental health, substance use, sex offender, and aggression management treatment services to residents, fostering their well-being and rehabilitation, and minimizing the risk of reoffending.
  • Provide direct clinical services, including individual, group, and family therapy, to youth aged 14 to 20 years.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and sustain a therapeutic environment for residents.

Work Schedule

This recruitment is for multiple positions, with shifts running from early to late afternoon, including alternating weekends. Specific incentives may apply to these roles.

Training Requirements

Selected candidates must commit to an initial basic skills training program, which consists of a three-week academy at a designated training center. This program includes academic instruction, skill-based classes, practical applications, and scenario-based training.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess considerable knowledge in providing evidence-based treatment services to adolescents, with experience in individual, family, and/or group therapy. Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team are essential. Knowledge of sex offender treatment and risk assessment, as well as substance use treatment, is also required.

Additional Considerations

Experience in a correctional center, residential setting, or group home is preferred. Licensure in relevant disciplines such as LCSW or LPC is advantageous. Certifications for sex offender treatment or substance use treatment are also beneficial.
