Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Juvenile Correctional Specialist (JCS). This position plays a crucial role in supporting the development and rehabilitation of youth within a secure correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement effective supervision and treatment strategies for juveniles in a correctional setting.
- Ensure a safe and supportive living environment that promotes personal growth and transformation.
- Monitor and oversee activities within assigned housing units to maintain security and well-being.
- Conduct regular safety checks and respond to behavioral crises as needed.
- Complete all necessary documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Engage with residents, staff, and visitors to foster a positive atmosphere.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team focused on helping youth achieve their goals while preparing for reintegration into society.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, contributing to a therapeutic environment.
Employment Conditions
Selected candidates must be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends and potential overtime during peak times. Training will be provided at a designated facility to ensure readiness for the role.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates should possess:
- Knowledge of conflict resolution and verbal intervention techniques.
- Understanding of safety and security protocols.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
- Capability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately, including physical intervention when necessary.
Additional Considerations
Experience working with at-risk youth or in a secure environment is preferred. Familiarity with crisis intervention and adolescent development will be advantageous.
