Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Juvenile Correctional Specialists (JCS). This role is vital in providing support and guidance to at-risk youth within a secure correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement effective supervision and security measures for juveniles in a correctional facility.
- Create a safe and supportive living environment that promotes personal growth and rehabilitation.
- Monitor and oversee daily activities to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff.
- Conduct regular safety checks and manage behavioral crises as they arise.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to daily operations and resident interactions.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assist youth in achieving their rehabilitation goals.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, fostering a therapeutic atmosphere.
Employment Conditions
Selected candidates may be required to work overtime during peak periods or emergencies. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as shifts may include weekends and holidays. New hires will undergo mandatory training to ensure they are equipped to handle the responsibilities of the role.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- Knowledge of conflict resolution and verbal intervention techniques.
- Understanding of safety and security protocols within a correctional setting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain thorough documentation and prepare reports.
- Capability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately, including the use of physical intervention techniques when necessary.
