Position Overview: The esteemed Steve Jackson laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute, affiliated with the University of Cambridge, is on the lookout for a motivated and talented Laboratory Research Associate.

Role Responsibilities: The successful candidate will collaborate with a skilled postdoctoral research associate on a pivotal project investigating the mechanisms of sensitivity and resistance in cancer cells subjected to clinically relevant inhibitors targeting the DNA-damage response kinase ATR. This initiative is supported by the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research.

The role entails conducting high-throughput CRISPR-Cas9 screenings to identify sensitivity and resistance mechanisms within specific genetic contexts, followed by validation and detailed mechanistic investigations. Proficiency in CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screenings is crucial, along with a solid foundation in cell and molecular biology methodologies, tissue culture, and the generation of stable cell lines.

Additional Duties: The research associate will also be responsible for various tasks, including the preparation of reagents, management of laboratory supplies, and supporting the daily operations of the lab.

Candidate Profile: The ideal applicant should demonstrate initiative and independent thought, possess exceptional communication abilities, and be capable of working autonomously as well as collaboratively within a dynamic and diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in life sciences.
  • Prior experience in a molecular cell biology research environment is essential.
  • Expertise in mammalian tissue culture, including transfection, siRNA applications, and stable cell line development.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, western blotting, immunofluorescence, DNA and RNA extraction, and protein analysis.
  • Experience in lentivirus production and transduction.
  • Strong background in CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screenings.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational capabilities.
  • Dependability and enthusiasm for research.
