Position Overview: The esteemed Steve Jackson laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute, part of the University of Cambridge, is on the lookout for a motivated and talented Laboratory Research Associate.

Role Responsibilities: The successful candidate will collaborate with a skilled postdoctoral research associate on a pivotal project investigating the mechanisms of sensitivity and resistance in cancer cells subjected to clinically relevant inhibitors targeting the DNA-damage response kinase ATR. This project is generously funded by the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research.

The role involves:

  • Conducting high-throughput CRISPR-Cas9 screens to identify sensitivity and resistance mechanisms in specific genetic contexts.
  • Validating findings through subsequent mechanistic studies.
  • Preparation of reagents and maintenance of laboratory stocks.
  • Supporting the daily operations of the laboratory.

Qualifications and Skills: The ideal candidate should demonstrate initiative and independent thought, possess excellent communication abilities, and be capable of working both autonomously and collaboratively within a dynamic and diverse team.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in life sciences.
  • Prior experience in a molecular cell biology research environment.
  • Proficiency in mammalian tissue culture techniques, including transfection, siRNA applications, and stable cell line generation.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology methodologies such as cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and nucleic acid and protein analysis.
  • Experience in lentivirus production and transduction.
  • Hands-on experience with CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screens.
  • Strong attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Dependability and enthusiasm for research.
