Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Neonatal Charge Nurse with exceptional clinical leadership capabilities to oversee the daily operations of the neonatal department. This role involves demonstrating clinical expertise while functioning at a Band 7 level and serving as a role model for those aspiring to advance into senior positions. You will play a crucial role in staffing management, monitoring attendance, conducting performance reviews, and engaging teams in the development of care pathways for our Neonatal Unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Neonatal Charge Nurse with a commitment to enhancing neonatal outcomes and Family Integrated Care (FiC), while providing support to both clinical and non-clinical staff within our maternity and neonatal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the NMC's regulations and standards for nursing and midwifery.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills in line with NMC recommendations.
  • Implement guidelines from governmental and professional organizations regarding neonatal care, particularly in accordance with the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) standards.
  • Monitor cleanliness standards within the designated area and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Act as a clinical role model, promoting high standards of professional practice among all staff in the neonatal unit.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, effectively communicating with patients, families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Foster an environment conducive to learning and professional growth for all team members.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Completion of ENB 405 or an equivalent neonatal course.
  • Mentorship training and evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Management qualification.
  • Substantial experience at Band 6 in a level two/three neonatal unit, including leadership experience.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of management and clinical skills.

Desirable:

  • Relevant first degree in neonatal care.
  • Documented evidence of further studies.
  • Understanding of the Children’s Act and child protection.

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Ability to take managerial and professional responsibility for a team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to promoting evidence-based care.

Desirable:

  • Motivation to develop clinical and managerial skills.
  • Completion of NALS Course.
