OldburyonSevern, South Gloucestershire, United Kingdom Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This opportunity is open to both external and internal applicants.

This role is situated within the Mental Health division of Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As the largest clinical division within the organization, the Mental Health Division encompasses community, urgent care, specialist, and Physical Health Psychology services, in addition to Talking Therapies.

Our community services are undergoing significant transformation in alignment with the NHS Long Term Plan. You will be joining us at a pivotal moment as our new Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) are being established, providing ample opportunity to shape the development and delivery of psychological services within the North team during its formative stages.

The successful candidates will become part of a locally based team comprising clinical and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists, and intervention practitioners.

Post holders will receive support and accountability from the team/service manager and will be professionally guided by a consultant psychologist.

The ideal candidate should be eager to apply their expertise in a new environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in their psychological approaches. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to integrate various professional models are essential. The post holder will be responsible for developing complex psychological formulations, providing supervision, consultancy, and training, and leading initiatives to enhance the understanding of psychological approaches to mental health recovery.

Main Responsibilities

As a Senior Psychologist within the Sandwell North CMHT, you will collaborate with colleagues and the consultant psychologist to design and implement clinical pathways in the newly established community service. This includes developing trauma-informed pathways and psychological support for individuals experiencing psychosis, as well as potential involvement in our in-house Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) services. You will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to the governance and oversight of psychologists and psychological practitioners within the team. You will work alongside another Senior Psychologist to achieve these objectives, taking a leadership role in strategic and service development initiatives as agreed with your professional leads.

There will be opportunities to actively participate in shaping the service model and developing other teams in the future. You will lead the design and implementation of service evaluations, engaging and empowering service users and their families to continuously enhance the service.

We maintain close ties with local universities and offer placements for trainees. The successful applicant will be expected to supervise and provide placements for such programs.

Members of our broader psychology team possess diverse therapeutic interests, ranging from psychodynamic to systemic/narrative and cognitive-behavioral models, and have expertise in consultancy, supervision, and training, forming a supportive network for team and service members.

About Us

At Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, we are committed to fostering cohesiveness and well-being within our psychology staff group. We have several initiatives aimed at supporting this, including an annual event that brings together all psychological professionals to enhance our connectedness, as well as regular opportunities for engagement, learning, and sharing best practices through special interest groups.

We value our staff and, as a leadership team, strive to ensure that individuals feel appreciated for their efforts and outcomes, reflected in regular feedback. We are pleased to offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities through a dedicated budget and actively utilize regional and national training opportunities as they arise. Current training initiatives within community services include the National PT-SMHP framework, which has enabled several of our staff to pursue postgraduate diploma training in NICE-based therapies.
