Position Overview

We are on the lookout for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our team, which focuses on supporting children and young people up to 18 years old with Autism and Learning Disabilities (LD), alongside associated mental health challenges. This role requires a motivated professional who can seamlessly integrate their existing Specialist Nursing expertise into our Children's Intensive Support Team, while also fostering the growth of this dynamic group.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, we aim to recruit a Band 6 Specialist Nurse who will collaborate with the Intensive Support Team to provide specialized intervention services for children and young people facing LD, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), mental health issues, and challenging behaviors.

We value creativity and enthusiasm, and you will be joining a supportive, innovative team committed to building positive therapeutic relationships and continuously improving patient care.

This position will maintain active connections with adult intensive support teams and the broader Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) professionals throughout the Black Country healthcare network.

There is also potential for development from Band 5 to Band 6 through a preceptorship for the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Be accountable for the effective management of your own caseload and assist in managing the caseloads of others.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to provide specialized support and guidance to children and young people with learning disabilities and additional needs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Intensive Support Team and the wider community services.
  • Uphold the highest standards of care within available resources.
  • Engage in continuous monitoring and evaluation of standards and performance through audits, case reviews, and clinical supervision.
  • Promote health education and health promotion initiatives.
  • Support other professionals and agencies in addressing the complex needs of children and young people.
  • Work flexibly to accommodate the individual needs of those with complex conditions, ensuring personalized care pathways.

Person Specification

Nurse Band 6

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and/or Autism, demonstrating sensitivity to their evolving needs.
  • Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities (RNLD) or Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) with NMC.
  • In-depth knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Mental Health Act (MHA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), safeguarding, and relevant legislative practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Evidence of clinical leadership, audit, or evaluation experience.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary or multi-agency environment.
  • Additional post-basic professional qualifications relevant to mental health clinical management, Positive Behavior Support (PBS), or mental health crisis management.
