Position Overview

Stantec is at the forefront of some of the most significant and intricate dam and hydro initiatives globally. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to enhance our innovative team, focusing on the design and advancement of state-of-the-art hydropower and pumped storage hydro systems.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be part of a diverse team engaged in projects that span various locations and complexities. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects, which may encompass turbines, pumps, generators, and control systems.
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while managing project deliverables.
  • Collaborating with project managers, technical leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Engaging in traditional advisory roles, acting as an Owner's Engineer, and supporting clients through concept and detailed design phases.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design specifically related to hydro and/or pumped storage systems.
  • Proficiency in producing technical specifications, energy calculations, and comprehensive reports.
  • Strong communication skills for effective presentations and collaborative design discussions.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling tools and a willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
