About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Stantec UK. As a key member of our hydro power and pumped storage team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects, including turbines, pumps, generators, and control systems.
  • Work closely with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for projects and communities.
  • Lead the team, acting as a mentor or guide to less experienced members, and help drive the development of innovative solutions.
  • Produce technical specifications, power and energy calculations, schedules, reports, and collaborate on designs of solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and other design engineers, providing technical presentations and inputting into collaborative design discussions.
Requirements
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred.
  • Specific experience in mechanical design of hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is a must.
  • Mechanical experience in other sectors, particularly elsewhere within the Energy and Water sectors, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to give technical presentations and input into collaborative design discussions.
  • Ability to work within a full 3D environment using appropriate tools to sketch and review models and within a common data environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally.
