Position Overview

Stantec is at the forefront of some of the globe's most significant and intricate dam and hydro initiatives. We are expanding rapidly and are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to our innovative team, focusing on the design and advancement of state-of-the-art hydropower and pumped storage hydro systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of a growing collective of mechanical and electrical engineers collaborating with our multi-disciplinary teams. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing, developing, and supporting the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage projects, including turbines, pumps, generators, and control systems.
  • Engaging in various project roles such as advisory, Owner's Engineer, client-facing concept design, contractor-facing detailed design, troubleshooting, installation support, and Lender's engineer/insurance/due diligence support.
  • Collaborating with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Mentoring and guiding less experienced team members.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred.
  • Specific experience in mechanical design of hydro and/or pumped storage systems is essential.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering within other sectors, particularly in Energy and Water, is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in producing technical specifications, power and energy calculations, schedules, and reports.
  • Strong communication skills for delivering technical presentations and contributing to collaborative design discussions.
  • Comfort in working within a full 3D environment using appropriate tools for modeling and reviews.
  • A willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
