Position Overview

Stantec is engaged in numerous large-scale and intricate dam and hydro initiatives worldwide. We are experiencing significant growth and are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to become a vital part of our innovative team, focusing on the design and advancement of state-of-the-art hydropower and pumped storage hydro technologies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will:
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Design, develop, and oversee the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage projects, which may include turbines, pumps, generators, and control systems.
  • Assume line management responsibilities for team members, contributing to business growth and strategic planning.
  • Lead project deliverables and ensure successful outcomes through effective communication with project managers, technical leaders, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional development.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design specifically related to hydro and/or pumped storage systems.
  • Experience in producing technical specifications, power and energy calculations, and comprehensive reports.
  • Strong communication skills for delivering technical presentations and participating in collaborative design discussions.
  • Proficiency in working within a 3D environment and utilizing appropriate tools for model review.
  • A willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
