In collaboration with ONS, the Commercial Services team is responsible for all procurement and contract management functions within the organization and is eager to recruit an Associate Commercial Practitioner. In this capacity, you will assist the Commercial Director in realizing the Commercial vision, serving as a vital partner in strategic business decision-making while adding value through innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to purpose. Your role will involve providing commercial assistance to ONS stakeholders, facilitating the achievement of business objectives through market insights, effective communication, and teamwork. You will play a key role in delivering value for money through innovation, cost efficiency, and effectiveness, ensuring fairness, transparency, sustainability, and diversity are integral to our operations.

Commercial Services operates within the Finance Planning and Performance (FPP) Directorate.

The Government Commercial Function establishes the operational framework for all government departments to ensure uniformity in commercial practices and procurement across the government. Commercial Services adheres to these standards, benchmarks, and training resources for personnel engaged in procurement and contract management to ensure best practices are upheld. The strategic goal is to secure optimal value for ONS through the delivery of commercial excellence.

Key Responsibilities

You will collaborate effectively with colleagues within Commercial Services and stakeholders throughout the organization to identify demand and manage the execution of commercial activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating comprehensive end-to-end commercial activities from pre-sourcing to contract management for Bronze and Silver tier contracts, along with the successful development and ongoing oversight of a robust Commercial pipeline.
  • Ensuring that commercial systems are accurately updated and that administrative tasks are completed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Adopting standard operating procedures and ensuring compliance while promoting the successful application of quality and Value for Money (VfM) for the organization.
  • Ensuring that expenditures align with current ONS Governance, Cabinet Office guidelines, and relevant regulations.
  • Upholding principles of inclusivity and support in all facets of your role.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • Experience in coordinating and executing activities within established timelines to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and dispute resolution.
  • Experience in working strategically to attain successful results as part of a team.
  • An understanding of the actions necessary to support the delivery of Value for Money (VfM) and efficiency.
  • Experience in relationship management and engagement with stakeholders at all levels, demonstrating effective communication skills (both verbal and written).
