Position Overview

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Senior Adult Oncology Service (SAOS). This role is pivotal in enhancing the care and experience of older patients with complex needs who are undergoing cancer treatments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Oversee the daily clinical management of patients within the SAOS, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, person-centered care.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) to identify and address frailty in older adults, developing tailored management plans.
  • Practice autonomously while being accountable for clinical decisions, adhering to professional standards.
  • Utilize advanced clinical judgment and decision-making skills to provide high-level care, including history taking, physical assessments, and medication management.
  • Facilitate shared decision-making processes and advocate for the needs of older patients and their families.
  • Engage with various oncology teams to ensure seamless patient care and communication.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, while evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.

Leadership and Development

In this role, you will:

  • Co-lead the development and optimization of the SAOS model of care, including updating policies and procedures.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and monitor service outcomes to enhance patient care.
  • Act as a mentor and educator, fostering a supportive learning environment for team members.
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote best practices and improve healthcare delivery systems.

Research and Quality Improvement

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring service activity and outcomes, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Utilizing clinical audit methodologies to support the SAOS model of care.
  • Encouraging patient and staff involvement in service enhancement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or a related field.
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification.
  • Extensive experience in nursing, particularly with complex older patients.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
