Position Overview

This role offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated nursing professional to contribute to enhancing patient care by joining the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Neuroendocrine (HPB/NET) Research Team as a Band 6 Oncology Research Nurse.

The HPB/NET Research Team is composed of a skilled group of Research Nurses, supported by Clinical Trial Coordination personnel. Our focus is on the recruitment and management of patients participating in clinical trials involving various therapeutic interventions within the fields of medical and clinical oncology.

Key Responsibilities

As an Oncology Research Nurse, you will play a vital role in a dynamic and evolving field, backed by a robust education and development framework to help you achieve your professional goals.

This position provides an excellent chance to oversee a diverse range of oncology research projects, which may encompass all trial phases, including early-phase international studies with investigational therapies, investigator-initiated studies, biomarker research, and quality of life assessments.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Consultants, Clinical Research Nurses, Clinical Trial Coordinators, key workers, Research Fellows, and Specialist Nurses.

Primary Duties

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating clinical trial protocols and providing support to patients involved in research.
  • Assessing and managing care pathways, ensuring the delivery of all specified treatments for research participants.
  • Demonstrating flexibility in your work approach and possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Having a background in oncology is essential, while experience in clinical research or with patients suffering from HPB/NET cancers is preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A valid registration as a General Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • A first degree or relevant clinical experience.
  • Experience in oncology nursing and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated evidence of service improvement.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential skills include:

  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Advanced organizational skills.
  • Proficient written and analytical skills.
  • Capability to manage your workload autonomously.
  • Competence in using standard software applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Desirable skills may include intravenous access and cannulation for chemotherapy administration.
