Lead Oncology Nurse
Position Overview
As a Lead Oncology Nurse, you will oversee the coordination of patient care services within the Ambulatory Care and Inpatient Ward settings.
This unit comprises a combination of inpatient beds and outpatient facilities dedicated to treating patients with hematological cancers and young adults facing various oncological challenges. We are committed to enhancing our outpatient services and have recently broadened our offerings to include additional specialties within the healthcare system.
Our outpatient care model allows for treatments that were traditionally administered in a hospital setting to be provided in a more accessible environment. This is facilitated through the use of advanced ambulatory technology and comprehensive patient education delivered by our expert nursing staff. The outpatient care component is primarily nurse-led.
We invite applications from dedicated and proactive nursing professionals who demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and possess strong communication and organizational abilities.
Experience in hematology or oncology is essential, while familiarity with teenage and young adult (TYA) nursing is advantageous. Comprehensive training will be provided in alignment with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and The Christie’s operational policies, within a JACIE accredited framework.
We seek individuals with integrity, vision, and a commitment to advancing nursing practices. This role presents both challenges and opportunities for growth, with diverse treatment protocols that offer continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
A Band 6 nurse in this role will be expected to undergo extensive clinical training to competently administer a variety of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring timely patient care delivery and supporting staff effectively.
- Maintaining the operational integrity of the unit and ward environment.
- Engaging in both clinical and managerial duties, including team management, performance reviews, and supporting the Unit Manager with audits and service evaluations.
Work Schedule
The position requires availability for shifts across a 24/7 schedule, including early and late shifts, as well as weekend and holiday coverage.
About The Christie NHS FT

- Facilitate communication with external healthcare teams.
