Overview of the Role

The Pharmacy department is experiencing significant growth, and we are excited to announce the opportunity to join our Clinical Pharmacy Advancement Programme. This comprehensive 18-month competency-based programme is designed to facilitate the transition from a foundation pharmacist (band 6) to an advanced clinical pharmacist (band 7) through a structured progression plan at 12 and 18 months.

We encourage applications from both trainee pharmacists and those with experience in other sectors who are eager to enhance their careers within a hospital setting. Experienced pharmacists at band 6 or 7 are also welcome; they will be integrated into the programme at the appropriate level based on their prior experience. This distinctive programme aims to broaden your expertise across various clinical specialties while supporting you in obtaining a postgraduate diploma from University College London, alongside other established objectives. Furthermore, we promote the achievement of a clinically enhanced pharmacist independent prescribing qualification as an extension of the programme to aid in your advancement towards senior specialized roles.

We seek to recruit skilled pharmacists who are self-motivated, collaborative team players capable of managing the demands of this vital NHS position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert patient care while supporting lead pharmacists, including the development, evaluation, and coordination of clinical pharmacy services aligned with the division's objectives and the UHSx Pharmacy strategy.
  • Contribute to all aspects of clinical governance, including clinical risk management and audit processes.
  • As a teaching hospital, engage in education and training, which includes supervising undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists, and providing line management and educational support to band 6 pharmacists as appropriate.
  • Promote inter-professional learning and participate in recognized educational initiatives, such as collaborative teaching activities with Foundation Doctors.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous pharmacy experience in the UK as a qualified or trainee pharmacist.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in hospital pharmacy.

Skills

Essential

  • Supporting information must demonstrate an understanding of the progression programme with examples of core skills required in a foundation secondary care role.
  • Applicants must exhibit a commitment to continual professional development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master of Pharmacy degree from a British School of Pharmacy or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council or actively working towards registration.
