Overview of the Role

The Pharmacy department is undergoing significant growth, and we are excited to announce the opportunity to join our Clinical Pharmacy Advancement Programme. This comprehensive 18-month competency-driven programme is designed to facilitate the transition from a foundation pharmacist (band 6) to an advanced clinical pharmacist (band 7) through structured progression at 12 and 18 months.

We encourage applications from both trainee pharmacists and those with experience in other sectors who aspire to enhance their careers within a hospital environment. Additionally, seasoned band 6 or 7 pharmacists are welcome to apply, with alignment to the appropriate stage of the programme based on their experience. This innovative programme aims to broaden your expertise across various clinical specialties, while also supporting you in achieving a postgraduate diploma at University College London alongside other established objectives. Furthermore, we promote the attainment of a clinically enhanced pharmacist independent prescribing qualification as a valuable extension of the programme.

We seek to recruit skilled pharmacists who are self-motivated, collaborative team players, capable of managing the demanding responsibilities inherent in this essential NHS role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert patient care while supporting lead pharmacists, including the development, evaluation, and coordination of clinical pharmacy services aligned with division objectives and the UHSx Pharmacy strategy.
  • Contribute to all aspects of clinical governance, including clinical risk management and audit.
  • As a teaching hospital, education and training are integral to all roles, including the supervision of undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists, and the line management of band 6 pharmacists as appropriate.
  • We promote inter-professional learning and have been recognized for our educational initiatives, including joint teaching activities with Foundation Doctors.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous pharmacy experience in the UK as a qualified or trainee pharmacist.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in hospital pharmacy.

Skills

Essential

  • Supporting information must demonstrate an understanding of the progression programme with examples of core skills required in a foundation secondary care role.
  • Applicants must show a commitment to continual professional development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master of Pharmacy degree from a British School of Pharmacy or a recognized equivalent.
  • Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council or actively working towards registration.
