About the Organization:

Switchboard provides a vital listening service for LGBTQIA+ communities across the UK. It serves as a secure environment for individuals to discuss various topics, including sexuality, gender identity, sexual health, and emotional well-being.

With over 17,000 conversations handled annually, the demand for their services remains high. Their dedicated network of volunteers plays a crucial role in offering support and gaining insights into the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.

Role Overview:
This newly created position is part of the staff team at Switchboard and reports directly to the Head of Volunteering and Training. The role involves close collaboration with key volunteer-led operational teams.

As the organization aims to enhance its service coverage, they plan to recruit and train approximately 100 new volunteers, increasing the total volunteer base to around 350. This growth will continue annually until they can manage all incoming communications effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and oversee volunteer social events and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Manage celebrations and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts.
  • Deliver a variety of in-person and online engagement activities throughout the year.
  • Coordinate Pride activations and volunteer recognition programs.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in organizing social and professional events of varying scales. A strong background in EDI initiatives and a genuine interest in workplace wellbeing are essential.

Exceptional interpersonal skills are critical for success in this role. The candidate should demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community and how these may affect volunteers.

Experience in managing social gatherings, analyzing data for effectiveness, and fostering collaborative networks is required. The candidate should also be comfortable with public speaking and engaging diverse audiences.
