Position Overview

The Volunteer Services Coordinator will oversee the enhancement and sustainability of the Volunteer Services, focusing on expanding the volunteer base within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will spearhead the formulation and execution of the Volunteer Services strategy, which includes:

  • Recruitment and onboarding of volunteers.
  • Facilitating necessary training programs.
  • Managing and deploying volunteers through effective leadership of the Volunteer Services Team.

Additionally, the role involves:

  • Fostering internal and external partnerships with colleagues, community organizations, and educational institutions to optimize collaborative opportunities.
  • Driving innovative projects that establish effective volunteer systems, programs, and roles.
  • Conducting evaluations and analyses to assess the success of these initiatives.

Job Duties

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operational management of the Volunteer Services across various locations.
  • Supervise the Volunteer Services department staff and provide support to the volunteer team.
  • Lead the proactive development of innovative volunteer services that align with organizational goals.
  • Provide strategic direction for the Volunteer Services to meet Trust and Directorate objectives.
  • Deliver exceptional support and service to volunteers and staff managing those volunteers.
  • Collaborate with host departments to ensure effective management and support of volunteers.
  • Establish a robust volunteer infrastructure, including recruitment processes, security checks, database management, and training programs.
  • Prepare reports for relevant committees to update on volunteer service initiatives.
  • Enhance the program of events and activities that showcase the value placed on volunteers.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential:

  • In-depth understanding of volunteer engagement and management within a healthcare context.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Creative vision for utilizing volunteers effectively.
  • Experience in the NHS acute sector.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and volunteers.
  • Management experience equivalent to a band 7 role in the NHS.
  • Familiarity with community groups and patient-centered charitable organizations.
  • Methodical problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing needs.

Desirable:

  • Experience in volunteer management.
  • Training and development experience.
  • Background in community health or social care services.
  • Event coordination and management experience.
