Your role will involve supporting volunteers in our charity shops and identifying further volunteering opportunities across various projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in volunteer recruitment, development, retention, and project management, including corporate volunteer events.
  • Implement aspects of our community strategy to achieve ambitious goals for increasing volunteer numbers and enhancing the volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with a small team to achieve these objectives.
  • Promote Octavia as a leading organization that values volunteering.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in volunteering and stay informed about relevant legislation and policies.

Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Execute our recruitment plan to ensure we meet our volunteer targets.
  • Take necessary actions if targets are not met.
  • Utilize diverse methods to attract a varied group of volunteers, coordinating with Octavia's communications team to effectively use our brand and marketing channels.
  • Maintain the high standard of service expected by Octavia at all times.
  • Implement our volunteering policy.
  • Develop additional volunteering opportunities.
  • Establish and implement volunteer role descriptions.
  • Advertise, interview, and select volunteers.
  • Conduct reference checks and DBS checks as necessary.
  • Recruit volunteers from diverse backgrounds, promoting equality and diversity.
  • Collaborate with voluntary and corporate organizations to enhance volunteer engagement.
  • Place volunteers in suitable roles based on their availability, skills, and expertise.
  • Organize and deliver training for volunteers on relevant policies and issues.

Volunteer Recognition and Retention:

  • Implement our policy on recognizing and retaining volunteers.
  • Assist in organizing the annual volunteer awards.
  • Facilitate additional recognition and retention opportunities.
  • Help organize events and activities for volunteer recognition and retention.
  • Promote the concept of volunteering within Octavia and externally as needed.

Volunteer Management:

  • Act as the primary contact for volunteers, including those in shops.
  • Address any volunteer-related issues promptly, collaborating with colleagues and volunteers in accordance with our policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on volunteer targets.
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers and provide support as needed.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers and conduct satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with all of Octavia's policies by volunteers.
  • Provide coaching to volunteers as required.

Requirements

We have identified the following essential requirements for this role:

Experience

  • Prior volunteering experience.
  • Experience in project implementation.
  • Proven track record of meeting targets.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Familiarity with case management systems.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Understanding of volunteering in charity retail.
  • Strong teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills, capable of engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Able to thrive under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and make informed decisions.

Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary of £33,457, along with a pension contribution of up to 10%.
