Key Responsibilities

Our acute hospital includes two specialized wards focused on Geriatric Care, alongside several additional wards catering to older patients. We also operate a rehabilitation facility in a nearby coastal area. Our Division features an innovative Community Frailty Service, designed to assist our elderly population in their homes, complemented by a newly established Acute Frailty Unit supported by multidisciplinary teams from acute, community, and social care sectors. Services for older adults encompass areas such as Parkinson's Disease management, ortho geriatrics, and mental health support.

Role Expectations

As a member of our medical consultant team, you will be supported by junior and trainee medical staff, as well as various clinical support teams. Our multidisciplinary team in Geriatric Medicine is enthusiastic and collaborative, having worked diligently to enhance frailty and geriatric services within our Trust. We aim to further improve patient outcomes by evaluating more frail patients at the initial point of care.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)
  • Completion of higher training in General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, as required for CCT or CESR
  • Entry onto the Specialist Registrar or UK SpR within 6 months of CCT or significant progress towards CESR

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
  • Formal qualification in medical education

Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive exposure to general and geriatric medicine in the UK.
  • Ability to provide expert clinical opinions on a range of acute medical conditions.
  • Capacity to take full responsibility for patient care.
  • Proficient practical clinical skills.
  • Competency in Intermediate Life Support.

Desirable Skills:

  • Competency in Advanced Life Support.

Communication and Leadership Skills
